ITALY, THE FIRST COUNTRY IN EUROPE TO PRE-NOTIFY A PRIVATE GUIDED DIGITAL IDENTITY

On 11 December 2017, during the eighth Cooperation Network Meeting held at DG Connect of the European Commission, the Agency for Digital Italy (AgID) presented SPID to the representatives of the member states and officially announced the way to the pre-notification process of the scheme of our Digital Identity System.

This is an important goal. In fact, the pre-notification represents a fundamental step in the path towards interoperability.

ITALY TOWARDS THE DIGITAL IDENTITY WITH THE PRE-NOTIFICATION OF SPID

After Germany, Italy is the second country in the European Union to have started the pre-notification phase of its digital identity system. The italian Minister for Simplification and Public Administration, Marianna Madia, officially started the work with a letter sent to the Vice President of the European Commission, Andrus Ansip, on November 24, 2017.

Based on the implementation of the eIDAS Regulation, the current peer reviewing process will follow the formalization of the notification of italian Digital Identity Public System (SPID) at European level. Subsequently, after the technical comparison with the other Member States, the European Commission will publish the scheme in the European Official Journal to allow the adaptation by all the EU States and the complete interoperability of the digital identity systems.

At that point, Italian citizens and businesses with SPID credentials will be able to access with their digital identity all the digital services of Public Administrations and private companies of EU Member States. Likewise, citizens and businesses residing in other European countries will have free access to online services provided by Public Administration and Italian companies.
